Maybe the Americans are on to something

I was thinking about having a treble on Brokeback Mountain, Ang Lee and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Good job I can't remember how you fill out a betting slip... (Crash won best pic)

I tried to do Philip Seymore Hoffman and Wallace & Gromit nin a double, but they said the market was suspended (at 10.30am GMT on Sunday!) Brokeback Mountain had no chance. Why? For the same reason PSH was a cert. The attitudes of the Academy are remarkably consistant. SO: deformity, madness or wierdness wins actor oscars (Think Monster, that boxing film last year, PSH this year) and the academy do not like films about gay men (but are happy to back a 'liberal' film giving a 'balanced' picture of race relations). Sorry that this seems like aftertiming. Susie will corroberate that my predictions were made before the event.

Well done to Nick Park too, not for the film, which was presumably great (I am yet to see it), but for an extremely refreshing speech ('Great Cheese gromit!) and for bringing Oscar a bow tie to match his. Better than Hallie Berry's blubbing any day.
